Arsenal are reportedly more serious than Manchester United in the race to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes this summer.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a breakout season for the West Midlands club this season. His impressive form in the Premier League under Gary O’Neill earned him his first minutes with the Brazil national team last month.

Gomes played the full 90 minutes against England at Wembley Stadium before featuring for a half against Spain three days later. His rise into the international set-up has only boosted his stock with some of Europe’s biggest clubs weighing up moves for the midfielder.

According to Brazilian media outlet O Dia, United are one of the teams interested in Gomes as they look to strengthen their midfield considering Christian Eriksen, Casemiro and Scott McTominay’s uncertain futures. However, while there is interest from the Reds, it is the Gunners who are deemed to be more serious about a move.

It is understood Mikel Arteta’s side are ready to make a move for the Wolves man this summer while United are not yet at a stage to sign off on an offer. Elsewhere, BILD reports that Erik ten Hag could be about to receive a hammer blow in his pursuit of RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Dani Olmo.

The Spaniard has seven goals and five assists from 21 appearances so far this season which has led to a host of Premier League clubs becoming interested in his signature. Olmo has three years remaining on his contract in Germany but it is understood a €60m (£51.42m) release clause exists.

Chelsea, United and Tottenham Hotspur are all thought to be keen on the 25-year-old but it is believed that Olmo has his heart set on a transfer to Manchester City. Bernardo Silva has been linked with the exit door at the Etihad Stadium and should he leave this summer, Pep Guardiola is thought to have his eye on the Leipzig man.
