As one of the most decorated professional wrestlers of all time, John Cena has faced many tough opponents. But will he be able to kick out after being hit by the full power of EU policymaking discourse?

Cena, an action movie star and 16-time WWE world champion, has started following a number of EU political Twitter accounts, including the European Parliamentary Research Service (that’s the EU Parliament’s in-house think tank), the European Commission’s Directorate General for Climate Action, the European Council Press Office and the Renew Europe group in the Parliament (surely the kind of wishy-washy liberals that a muscle-bound American hero would crush in the palm of his hand).

This somewhat unexpected Twitter activity started with Cena following a number of American political journalists last year (he also follows the POLITICO Careers account in the U.S., perhaps hoping a job comes up on the agriculture beat). Then Cena moved on to the U.K., following the likes of the Conservative Party and Carrie Johnson, the wife of former British Prime Minister Hulk Hogan — sorry, Boris Johnson. And now he’s turned his attention to the EU.

Cena does have ties to politics. Last year he starred as the titular candidate in the movie “The Independent” and he was on the card at Wrestlemania 23 in 2007, when there was a match in which now-former WWE boss Vince McMahon or Donald Trump would be shaved bald if their chosen wrestler lost. Alas, McMahon was on the losing end and the world was spared seeing a bald Trump (a sight that would surely have derailed any future presidential ambitions and therefore changed the course of history, or something).
