Angie Stone, 63, a three-time Grammy-nominated singer, died in a van accident in Alabama on the morning of March 1 while leaving a performance.

According to TMZ , Angie Stone’s publicist Deborah R. Champagne said the accident occurred early Saturday morning while traveling from a performance in Montgomery, Alabama to Baltimore for the CIAA basketball tournament. The van carrying nine people, including the crew and backup singers, overturned on Highway 65 in Montgomery County. Angie Stone was the only person killed in the accident.
Angie Stone’s sudden death has left her family, friends and fans in shock. Her publicist said she had only spoken to Angie the night before.
The singer’s daughter, Diamond Stone, confirmed the news on Facebook with the status: “My mother is gone”, along with a sad emoji.

Angie Stone was born in 1961 in South Carolina, USA, and is a famous R&B singer. She began her singing career as a member of the pioneering female hip hop group The Sequence. From 1979 to 1985, the group released three albums. The group’s song Funk You Up inspired many artists, including Bruno Mars of Uptown Funk. In the late 1990s, Angie Stone began her solo career. Her debut album Black Diamond was certified gold in the US. Two years later, Angie released Wish I Didn’t Miss You – one of her most famous songs.

The artist received her first Grammy nomination for the song More Than a Woman in 2003 in the category of Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. In 2004, the song U-Haul from Angie’s third solo album was nominated for Best Female R&B Performance. Her third Grammy nomination came in 2008 for the song Baby , from her fourth solo album The Art of Love & War.
In addition to her music career, Angie Stone has also pursued acting, appearing in over 20 television and film productions, and has appeared in several musicals including the play Chicago .
