WNBA phenomenon Caitlin Clark said in an interview with Time magazine that Taylor Swift invited her to a Kansas City Chiefs game.

The publication, which named Clark its Athlete of the Year, reported on her interactions with Swift in recent months. Clark said she met Swift and Chiefs’ Travis Kelce in person after attending two shows on the singer’s Eras Tour.

“People were going crazy because I was there,” Clark said. “I thought people would be in their own world, ready to see Taylor. And it was the complete opposite.”

Swift’s invitation to a Chiefs game would give Clark the chance to watch her favorite team with her favorite musical artist. Clark has previously cited Swift as her favorite artist and welcomed Swift to the Chiefs fandom when the singer’s relationship with Kelce went public in September 2023.

The invitation also comes in a year where Swift has clearly distanced herself from Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Kelce’s teammate, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, since last season.

Swift stood or sat next to Brittany in the same suite for most of last year’s games. This year, however, Swift has only been seen with Mahomes at two games — Oct. 7 against the Saints and Nov. 4 against the Buccaneers.

The duo made headlines during the Chiefs’ first game against the Ravens when they sat in separate booths to open the season. The two sat separately after Brittany sparked backlash for publicly liking a Donald Trump post on Instagram. Swift’s social media fan groups were partly responsible for circulating a screenshot of Brittany resembling Trump’s post.

Trump even weighed in on the controversy after Swift endorsed Kamala Harris for president on September 10. In an interview on “Fox & Friends” the following day, Trump said he liked Brittany “much better” than Swift.

After Trump sent out a Truth Social post that read “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”, many of her fans called on Mahomes to disavow any support she had for Trump.

Mahomes never did, however. She simply continued to attend Chiefs games, sometimes sitting next to Swift and sometimes sitting with others, including model Paige Buechele, wife of Chiefs backup quarterback Shane Buechele, during the Nov. 17 game against the Buffalo Bills.

Clark declined to endorse any political candidates before the recent election, but she did like Swift’s Instagram post endorsing Harris. Clark has supported athletes encouraging fans to vote when asked about similar things.

Clark was previously featured alongside Swift on the cover of Time magazine’s recent Inspiring Women special edition, which featured eight women in leadership positions, including several athletes.
