The Cyrus family has made headlines in recent days thanks to an open letter written by Billy Ray’s son Trace
The Cyrus family doesn’t want any drama to play out publicly.
As rumors swirl about the family’s status in the wake of Trace Cyrus’s open letter of concern to Billy Ray following the family patriarch’s inauguration performance, a Cyrus family source says talk of bad blood is unfounded.
“They got through the drama of 2024, and it’s a new year,” the insider says. “Miley and Noah and Braison and Tish, they don’t want to be this Cyrus family feud. This is not enjoyable for them.”
Billy Ray, 63, is dad to sons Trace, 35, and Braison, 30, and daughters Brandi, 37, Miley, 31, and Noah, 25, with Tish, 57, whom he divorced in 2022 (The singer is also dad to son Christopher, 32).
Braison and reps for Tish, Miley and Noah did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s requests for comment.
On Jan. 24, the singer announced that he will release a new album this summer produced by Braison. The record announcement came amid a flurry of headlines following the inauguration performance, which was plagued with technical difficulties and seemingly prompted the letter from Trace, which was shared publicly on Instagram.

But the source says that sharing news of the album on Jan. 24 was a “long-planned announcement” that Billy Ray decided back in the fall, and not something that came as a result of the week’s events.
Braison — who made his Grand Ole Opry debut in July with Billy Ray by his side — praised the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer in a statement as he expressed excitement for the new record.
“I’ve spent this past year getting to know my dad better than I ever have,” he said. “I’ve heard stories, jokes and songs that I don’t think anyone else has. It’s an opportunity to tell my dad’s story through music and I’m fortunate to be able to take it. Music, stories and family are the most important things to my dad so to bring the two together is a full circle endeavor.”
Billy Ray, meanwhile, said he was “so proud to lean into the music” with his son, and that the album was “gonna be special.”
In Trace’s letter, he wrote that “me and the girls have been genuinely worried about you for years but you’ve pushed all of us away… You’re not healthy Dad & everyone is noticing it,” seemingly referencing his sisters.
Elsewhere in the letter, Trace expressed fear that “the world may lose” Billy Ray too soon and addressed his own sobriety, writing,”We haven’t talked in a while but I’m over a year and half clean from alcohol. Guess what? I feel amazing.”
In June, Billy Ray gave Noah a special shoutout on Instagram, sharing a throwback photo of the two and sharing lyrics from their 2022 duet “Noah (Stand Still).” In the comments section, the “July” singer responded, “Love my daddy so much.”
Miley, meanwhile, touched on their relationship in an interview with David Letterman in June, during which the comedian asked the Grammy winner directly if she and Billy Ray were estranged.
“There’s not estrangement here with your father,” he said, “it’s just the way things are played?”
“Yeah,” Miley said. “I think, what is so beautiful is that my parents, they served their children, and I know this. My parents served us and sacrificed so much for us. Anything we dreamed of, they made possible.”
