The couple was first sparked romance rumors in December 2021

Kaia Gerber and Austin Butler have called it quits.

More than three years after going public with their relationship in March 2022, the model, 23, and Oscar-nominated actor, 33, are going their separate ways, a source confirms to PEOPLE.

TMZ was the first to report the news, stating that the couple ended their relationship near the end of 2024. The outlet also noted that the Elvis actor was absent from the Gerber family’s recent vacation in Mexico.

Reps for Gerber and Butler have not responded to requests for comment.

The duo first sparked romance rumors in December 2021 when they attended a yoga session together in L.A. After being spotted together numerous times, they made their red carpet debut at W Magazine‘s annual Best Performances party three months later in March 2022.

Gerber and Butler attended the 2022 Met Gala together that May. They walked the carpet separately but had a sweet moment (and shared a kiss) when they reached the top of the Metropolitan Museum of Art staircase.

Gerber supported Butler, whose performance in Elvis earned him numerous accolades, throughout the 2022-2023 awards season. The pair was seen kissing at the Golden Globes and attended the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty following the ceremony where Butler was nominated for Best Actor.

Butler also spent time with the Saturday Night actress’ famous family, which includes her supermodel mom, Cindy Crawford, and business man dad Rande Gerber. In May 2023, the couples were spotted grabbing dinner at Roberta’s in Culver City, Calif.

One year later, in May 2024, a source told PEOPLE, “Kaia and Austin are going strong.”

“They held hands the entire way to dinner and stopped and hugged a few times before going into a club [on May 24],” the insider said of the couple’s Memorial Day weekend in New York City. They definitely looked happy and in love.”

During an interview with WSJ. Magazine, Gerber, shared why she and Butler kept a low profile.

“Honestly, I feel like so few things in my life are private, and that is one of the things that I try to keep as sacred as possible,” she told the outlet in February.

Prior to their relationship, Gerber dated Euphoria actor Jacob Elordi. Butler dated High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens for eight years before their split in January 2020.
