The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed authorities responded to a call near Baena’s residence on Friday. The LAPD told Fox News Digital the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
A full report from the medical examiner’s office will not be provided until the case is concluded.
Baena and Plaza kept their relationship a secret after meeting in 2011. It’s unclear when the two tied the knot, but Plaza confirmed the couple’s married status in 2021 with an Instagram post.
“So proud of my lovely husband @jeffbaena for dreaming up another film that takes us to Italy to cause more trouble,” the 40-year-old actress wrote at the time.

Plaza did not attend the Golden Globes days after Baena’s death, despite being previously announced as a host.
Director Brady Corbet acknowledged the death of the “Spin Me Round” director during his Golden Globe acceptance speech on Sunday night. Corbet won best director for “The Brutalist.” He thanked the awards committee for giving his film a presence before leaving the audience with a brief tribute to Baena.
“Finally, my heart goes out to Aubrey Plaza and the Jeff family tonight,” Corbet concluded his speech. “Good night.”
