In the Hollywood entertainment industry, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has always been seen as a symbol of strength, perseverance and positive spirit.
With his muscular body, warm smile and confident demeanor, he brings the image of a man who “nothing can defeat”. However, few people know that the Fast & Furious star once experienced a period of deep depression, lasting for many years, after his divorce from his first wife, Dany Garcia.
In a recent episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, The Rock briefly reflected on the 2007 incident – a period he called “dark” in his life. “I can look back on that time with clarity and relief now, but back then, it was really hazy. When you get married, you think it’s going to be a long journey, but it doesn’t always work out. Then I wondered how I was going to be a father,” he said.
The shock of his marriage caused the actor to fall into a state of prolonged depression, losing direction in both work and life. He once shared the feeling of “losing a part of himself”, when he had to heal emotional wounds and try to maintain his role as a father to his young daughter Simone Alexandra. To overcome this, The Rock chose to focus on work and look for light-hearted, family-oriented film projects, such as The Game Plan (2007) or Tooth Fairy (2010). He said that these roles helped him “heal” and regain positive energy.
From breakdown to friendship and cooperation
The Rock and Dany Garcia married in 1997 after many years together. Dany was not only his life partner but also his career partner, she also worked as Johnson’s financial and strategic manager. They have a daughter together, Simone Alexandra, born in 2001. However, after 10 years of marriage, the two decided to separate amicably.
Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia remain friends and partners after divorce
At that time, Dany Garcia affirmed: “We are very lucky to have been together for the past 17 years and look forward to spending the rest of our lives together as close friends and business partners.”
Unlike many Hollywood divorces, The Rock and Dany have maintained a stable friendship and partnership. They co-founded the production company Seven Bucks Productions in 2012, the company behind blockbusters such as Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle , Hobbs & Shaw , and Black Adam . Whenever The Rock launches a new project, Dany is always there behind the scenes to congratulate and support. The two are proof that love can end, but respect and commitment can continue in another form.
New Chapter of Happiness
After overcoming difficult times, Dwayne Johnson found peace with musician Lauren Hashian, whom he met while filming The Game Plan. The two were together for 12 years before getting married in August 2019 in a small ceremony in Hawaii. They now have two lovely daughters, Jasmine and Tiana Gia.
In many media appearances, The Rock has not hesitated to express his love for his wife. He calls Lauren his “kindred spirit” and “the glue that holds everything together in the family.”
“She is the most amazing woman I have ever met. She is the glue that holds our family together, single-handedly running the house. She is beautiful, inspiring, sweet, and full of love. I love her,” The Rock shared in a post to celebrate their wedding anniversary.
After his marriage fiasco, The Rock not only came back stronger, but also became an inspirational voice for mental health. He has repeatedly encouraged his fans, especially men, not to be afraid to talk about depression. “Admitting that you are hurting is not a weakness. On the contrary, it is the first step to healing,” he once said.
From a professional wrestler to the world’s top action star, through heartbreak and rebirth, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson shows that true strength lies not in muscles, but in the ability to rise from mental wounds. He is not only a “silver screen hero”, but also a living testament to the value of resilience, gratitude and kindness, qualities that make the “rock” shine more and more in the turbulent Hollywood.
