Jose de la Torre, best known for his role as Ivan in Netflix’s series Toy Boy, passed away last Thursday, Dec. 5, amid a battle with a mystery illness. He was 37 years old.
According to Montilla Digital, the actor’s funeral occurred one day after his death in Montilla, Spain.
de la Torre previously revealed that he had been suffering from an unknown illness and decided to step away from acting to focus on treatment.
Immediately after the news broke about de la Torre’s death, Spanish singer Pablo Alborán took to Instagram to pay tribute to the late actor.
“I can’t believe you’re gone so soon,” Alborán stated. “I’m devastated by your departure. I’m sending kisses to all of your family and friends. We’ll never forget you, Jose. Wherever you are, I’m sure you’re wearing a Hawaiian shirt, a killer [mustache], and those sunglasses like the ones we wore that day.”
Toy Boy followed a male stripper who served seven years in a Málaga prison. After being released pending a retrial, the stripper sets out to prove his lover ramed him for her husband’s murder. The show ran for two seasons and starred Jesús Mosquera, Cristina Castaño, and María Pedraza.
de la Torre appeared in 21 episodes of the show as Iván, the founder and owner of a club, Inferno.
Jose de la Torre Previously Opened Up About What Inspired Him to Go Into Acting
During a previous interview with Montilla Digital, de la Torre opened up about how he got into acting in the first place.
“From a very young age, I found refuge in cinema,” de la Torre explained. “But not so much in acting, at least at the beginning. I was a child who never stopped watching movies, just to entertain myself, and that caught my attention and planted the seed in me that would later become the desire to dedicate myself to it.”
He further explained that the feeling “identified” with many of the characters he admired, which made him lean towards acting.
“The truth is, those were times when I wasn’t sure what to do,” de la Torre said. “I finished the university entrance exams and I didn’t really know where to look. I was thinking about enrolling in Audiovisual Sciences, but I wasn’t convinced.
That was when he took the tests at the School of Dramatic Arts (ESAD) in Malaga.
“They accepted me,” he added. “It was then that I realized that I had chosen well, that I would be happy being an actor.”
