Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, famous for the film “Meteor Garden”, died in Japan of flu and pneumonia, at the age of 49.
On February 3, on Next Apple , MC Tu Hy De, Hy Vien’s younger sister, said that her sister suddenly passed away in Japan. Hy De said: “Thank you everyone for your concerns. During the New Year, our family went to Japan for a vacation. My dear, innocent sister, due to flu and pneumonia, left us. I am grateful for being your sister in this life, taking care of you and being your companion. I will always be grateful to you, and I will always remember you.”
The actress’s relatives announced the sad news to the audience. Businessman Wang Xiaofei, her ex-husband, changed his profile picture on his personal page to a black background. The last time she was seen was about 10 days ago, at a friend’s daughter’s wedding.
At that time, Hsu Hy Vien was holding hands with her husband – Korean singer DJ Koo – and drinking with her younger sister Hsu Hy De and some friends.

For the past two years, the actress has not appeared in public or given interviews. Occasionally, friends post photos of them eating with her. In early 2024, DJ Koo said Hy Vien’s health was not good, and he took care of and pampered his wife. “I carried her to the bathroom and cooked when she said she was hungry,” the singer said.
At the end of her life, the star was involved in a series of disputes with her ex-husband Uong Tieu Phi and her ex-mother-in-law – businesswoman Truong Lan. Hy Vien was born in 1976 in Taiwan, and joined the entertainment industry in the 1990s. In 2001, she became famous in several Asian countries through the role of Sam Thai in Meteor Garden .
