Pope Francis Decides Not to Attend Easter Mass in the Next Years Due to Health Reasons

Vatican – Just 30 minutes after the end of the solemn Easter ceremonies this year, the Vatican made a surprise announcement that shocked many believers around the world: Pope Francis will not attend Easter Mass in the coming years due to his deteriorating health.

The official announcement was released from the Holy See Press Office early on Easter Sunday morning, emphasizing that the decision was made by the Holy Father after a long period of consideration and consultation with medical experts. Accordingly, Pope Francis – who is 88 years old this year – feels that he is no longer physically able to preside over and fully participate in the Easter ceremonies that require a tight work schedule, especially during the days from Holy Thursday to Easter Sunday.

“The Holy Father, with a heavy heart, has taken this decision after many months of prayer and medical consultation. He wants all the faithful to understand that this is a decision for the health and sustainability of his pastoral ministry,” said a Vatican spokesman.

Over the past decade, Pope Francis has made a strong impression as a pope who is close, humble and compassionate. Despite facing many health problems – including chronic knee pain, difficulty breathing, and more recently a relapse of bronchitis – the Holy Father has always tried to be present at major Masses, especially Easter – one of the holiest moments in Catholicism.

Many faithful in St. Peter’s Square could not hide their emotions when they heard the news. “I cried when I heard the announcement. Even though I know he is old and needs rest, the presence of Pope Francis always brings me a sense of peace,” said a Spanish pilgrim.

The Vatican has not yet announced who will replace the Pope in presiding over Easter ceremonies in the future. However, senior cardinals may take on this role according to specific assignments from the Holy See.

Although he will no longer directly attend Easter Masses in the coming years, Pope Francis still affirms that he will continue to accompany the global Catholic community through prayer and spiritual messages. He calls on believers to constantly preserve faith, love and hope – the core values that Easter brings.
