Rating Liverpool vs Man Utd: Varane, Onana Outstanding
Manchester United’s defensive line received high ratings after holding Liverpool to a goalless draw. Diogo Dalot became the focal point in the final minutes as he received two consecutive yellow cards within 5 seconds for reacting to the referee’s decision. Nevertheless, the Daily Mail still rated the Portuguese defender 8 – the highest rating for a player in the match between Liverpool and Man Utd.
Dalot impressed with numerous interceptions against Luis Diaz’s dribbles across the penalty area. He also made it difficult for Tsimikas and prevented him from delivering many notable crosses. In the Man Utd lineup, other defensive players also received high ratings.
Andre Onana was rated 7.5 for his excellent diving saves and good counterattacking distribution. Raphael Varane demonstrated impressive defensive leadership. He didn’t make any mistakes and posed many difficulties for Liverpool’s forwards. Varane received 7.5 points. Evans and Shaw played with focus and were rated 7.
The highest-rated midfielder for Man Utd was Kobbie Mainoo. The 18-year-old star played confidently and received 7 points. Amrabat, Antony, and McTominay received 6.5 points. Garnacho and Hojlund didn’t leave a significant mark and settled for a score of 6.5.
In contrast to Man Utd’s defense, Liverpool’s attack struggled. Darwin Nunez received 5 points – the lowest rating. He played poorly and constantly mishandled the ball. Salah earned 7 points for his creative efforts. Luis Diaz was tightly marked by Dalot and only received 6 points.
Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, and Wataru Endo were rated 6, 5.5, and 5.5 points respectively. They played passively and couldn’t make a difference against Man Utd’s midfield blockade. Konate received 6.5 points and Van Dijk received 6 points. There isn’t much to say about Liverpool’s center-backs as Man Utd’s attack was too weak.
Alexander-Arnold received 7.5 points – the highest for Liverpool. He contributed significantly to the team’s overall play. On the opposite flank, left-back Tsimikas received 6.5 points – equal to goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
In a match that showcased good squad management, Erik ten Hag was rated 8 points. Manager Klopp made substitutions but didn’t bring effectiveness, earning only 6 points.
