Vice President Harris said her campaign was prepared for the scenario where Mr Trump declared victory even before the vote count was completed.

US Vice President Kamla Harris said on October 22 that her campaign is preparing for the possibility that her opponent Donald Trump seeks to challenge the election results, but is still focused first on defeating the Republican candidate.

“We will deal with it on election night and in the days following if something comes up. We have the resources, the expertise and the focus to do this,” Harris said.

Asked about the possibility that Mr Trump would attempt to declare himself the winner before the votes were counted and before the media predicted the results, Harris said she was concerned about this scenario.

“Mr. Trump sought to undermine free and fair elections. He continues to deny the will of the people. He incited a violent mob to storm the Capitol, attack 140 law enforcement officers, and leave some dead. This is a serious matter,” Ms. Harris said.

The vice president did not elaborate on what she would do if Trump declared victory before the results were known, but she urged people to make a “very serious decision about the future of this country” in the vote that will take place in two weeks.

Mr. Trump has not commented on the above statement. He has accused the 2020 presidential election of being “rigged,” not accepting the vote count, and even trying to overturn the election. The former president has not yet conceded defeat in the election four years ago.

In the first weeks after becoming the Democratic candidate, Ms. Harris limited her interviews, but recently increased her interactions with the media.

Polls show Mr. Trump and Ms. Harris are tied, with their approval ratings nearly equal both nationally and in seven battleground states.
