Manchester United fans have resorted to claiming a niche honour that no league table would recognise – the idea that they’ve scored the best goals this season.

Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo scored cracking strikes in their 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Sunday, adding to their catalogue of stunners.

While they sit sixth in the Premier League and finished bottom of their Champions League group, supporters have managed to salvage positivity by lauding their high-class goals.

It is hard to disagree that United have treated their faithful to screamers, peaches, and technically impressive strikes this campaign.

Alejandro Garnacho’s overhead kick in a 3-0 win against Everton at Goodison Park in November tops the lot and should be in the running for goal of the season.

Manchester United fans have lauded their brilliant goals this season, including Alejandro Garnacho’s overhead kick against Everton

Back in March, Marcus Rashford’s first-time strike with his laces put the Red Devils in the lead against Manchester City, although the hosts went on to win 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

One fan account has put together a compilation of goals from Mainoo, Fernandes, Garnacho, Rashford, Diogo Dalot, and Rasmus Hojlund, soundtracked by an insufferable rap tune, and it has brought back fond memories for supporters.

‘Not so great season but man our goal catalogue is one for the AGES,’ one user wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

‘We scored the best goals of this season,’ wrote another.

‘The blue print of what [is] to come,’ commented one optimist.

Fans believe their players have scored the ‘best’ goals of the campaign – and it’s hard to disagree when you see the highlights reel

‘Since we’re going trophyless, the players are doing everything possible to bring the Puskas to Old Trafford,’ wrote another.

The FIFA Puskas Award is given to the player adjudged to have scored the best goal of the calendar year in world football. It is named after Ferenc Puskas, the legendary Hungarian striker.
