Hollywood stars, Idris Elba and John Cena, are part of the cast for the new superhero movie, The Suicide Squad which landed in cinemas on Thursday and on the streaming platform, HBO Max, on Friday.
Written and directed by James Gunn, the Warner Bros movie is neither a sequel nor a reboot of the 2016 movie of the same title, Newsweek reported.
However, the new movie has similar themes and returning characters, which are made up of past anti-hero villains led by Idris Elba under the character of Bloodsport.
Some returning characters in the movie include Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Viola Davis as Amanda Walker.
The new characters showing up in the new movie are Bloodsport, played by Idris Elba, and John Cena playing Peacemaker. Sylvester Stallone voices King Shark while David Dastmalchian acts as the famously oddball villain Polka-Dot Man.
Cena has hailed Gunn for inviting him to take up the role, which was a new adventure for him.
The wrestler cum actor said, “The yes was easy. I’ve always wanted to work with James Gunn and the process was very simple. He has a knack for casting, he casts incredibly well.
“I think it’s because he really does create his own image of these characters and the writing process in the pre-production process, storyboarding, so he had a few people in mind for Peacemaker, and I think some of them didn’t work out and he got to me on the depth chart and I was in. I was all in.”
