Actor Ben Affleck says people speculated about serious problems that led to his and Jennifer Lopez’s divorce last year, but the real reason was very mundane.
In an interview with GG magazine published on March 25, Ben Affleck responded to rumors that his marriage with J.Lo fell apart because the singer was too public about their private life in the documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told, which will be released in early 2024. Ben affirmed that J.Lo’s openness in contrast to his private personality was not the cause of the rift.
“There are people who handle the life of fame better than me, and Jennifer Lopez is one of them,” Ben explains. “My personality is a little more reserved and private than hers. But like any relationship, you don’t always have the same outlook and attitude as the other person. I was like, ‘That’s cool! How do you balance that?'”

The Batman actor said he participated in J.Lo’s documentary because he loved and supported her. Ben believed in his wife because he felt she was amazing and wanted everyone to know that. According to Ben, before entering a relationship with J.Lo, he knew the differences in their personalities. “I said in the documentary: You don’t marry a captain and say, ‘Man, I don’t like water,'” Ben shared. “You can’t watch that documentary and say you understand our problems.”
The actor stressed that there was no specific moment that ended their marriage, nor was there any scandal, conflict or drama. “I completely respect her. I guess people tend to look at breakups and want to identify the root cause. But the truth is much more normal than what people think,” he said.
Ben hinted that sometimes couples break up because they’re trying to figure out their lives and relationships, not because one or the other did something wrong or there’s some big problem.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s marriage broke down last April after nearly two years of marriage. In May, Ben moved out and rented a house. Three months later, J.Lo filed for divorce in Los Angeles court. Their divorce was amicable and finalized in February this year.
In the interview, Ben also mentioned his first wife, actress Jennifer Garner. The actor confided: “I am really lucky to have a companion and partner like Jennifer Garner – the mother of my children. She is wonderful and we are really compatible in raising our children together.”
