The scene recorded a fierce fire breaking out from behind the stage at around 20:30 (local time), when Dua Lipa’s performance was reaching its climax. According to witnesses present at the event, black smoke billowed up, spreading quickly to the main stage area in just a few minutes. The sound was suddenly cut off, thousands of spectators panicked and fled, many of them couldn’t help but cry out of fear.

Initial sources said that at least 6 artists and dozens of backstage staff were trapped inside when the fire broke out. Dua Lipa, 29, was found with minor burns to her hands and smoke inhalation and is currently being treated at the nearest hospital in Boom, Belgium, where the festival was held. Her manager confirmed: “Dua is conscious but mentally disturbed. She is being treated intensively and may have to cancel all remaining shows this summer.”

Although there has been no official conclusion from the police, it is likely that the fire started from a technical problem related to the flare system or an electrical short circuit in the stage equipment. Firefighters were quickly on the scene just 10 minutes after the fire broke out, but the evacuation of tens of thousands of spectators made the rescue operation difficult.
On social media, millions of fans expressed their concerns and sent prayers to Dua Lipa as well as other artists present at the scene. The hashtag #PrayForDuaLipa quickly climbed to the top 1 trending globally on Twitter in just 30 minutes.

Tomorrowland – considered one of the world’s largest electronic music festivals – has a history of safe and grandiose organization. However, this incident is an unprecedented shock in the festival’s more than two decades. Tomorrowland organizers have now issued an urgent announcement, confirming the cancellation of all remaining activities of this year’s event and pledging to coordinate a comprehensive investigation to clarify the cause of the fire.

Currently, Dua Lipa’s health is being closely monitored. Fans around the world are still anxiously waiting for further updates. International artists, including Billie Eilish, Calvin Harris and Martin Garrix, have posted emotional messages on Instagram, praying for her speedy recovery.
The heartbreaking incident not only raised alarm bells about fire safety at large-scale music festivals, but also highlighted the importance of emergency evacuation plans – something that many believe was overlooked in this year’s preparations.
