RSPCA seeks help in identifying person responsible for severe injury to pet cat in an illegal backyard trap.KhanhNhu

The RSPCA in Victoria has called on members of the public to help them track down the person responsible for setting an illegal trap that seriously injured a domestic cat.
The short-haired feline was found stuck in a fishpond at a home in Mooroolbark, east of Melbourne, on September 27 with its front paw trapped in the serrated steel trap.
“The cat was seen to be dragging the affected leg, and subsequent x-rays confirmed several fractures and nerve damage had occurred as a result of the trap,” RSCPA Victoria said in a statement.
The RSPCA in Victoria has called on members of the public to help them track down the person responsible for setting an illegal steel jaw trap that caught and seriously injured a domestic cat.
“Due to the severe nature of the cat’s injuries his entire limb was amputated to prevent any further infections or complications.
“It is unknown how many days the cat had spent trying to free itself from the trap, or how far the cat has travelled.”
The pet was found wearing a blue collar with a bell but had no tags and has not been microchipped, so its owner is still unknown.

RSPCA Victoria Inspector Kate Davies has slammed the “horrific act of animal cruelty” and pleaded for the public to help locate the person who set the trap.
“This cat would have been in significant physical pain and experienced severe mental distress,” Ms Davies said in a statement.
“We are currently encouraging anyone who has seen something that may contribute to this investigation to come forward with information.

“Our thanks go to the person who found the animal and reacted quickly to prevent the cat from further suffering.”
Any person identified as responsible for the illegal trap could face up to two years in jail and fines of up to $82,610.
