California Governor Gavin Newsom has released a video mocking President Donald Trump using a new Taylor Swift song, continuing the online spat between the two politicians. When approached for comment, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson responded with an image of a man who resembled Newsom sporting a large mustache, wearing a sombrero and waving maracas. Newsweek contacted Newsom for comment on Saturday via email outside regular office hours.

In recent months, the president has referred to Newsom as “Newscum” on social media, and the California governor has hit back with a series of social media posts mimicking and mocking the president’s use of block capitals and brash insults. As Newsom has been widely tipped as a potential Democratic nominee for the 2028 presidential election, his spat with Trump has national political importance.

Swift’s “Actually Romantic,” a song from her recently released The Life of a Showgirl album, played in the background. The lyrics, which are partially shown in the video, say: “But it’s actually sweet, all the time you’ve spent on me. It’s honestly wild, all the effort you’ve put in. It’s actually romantic, I really gotta hand it to you. No man has ever loved me like you do.”

According to The New York Times, Swift’s fans believe “Actually Romantic” is about British singer Charli XCX, though neither party has confirmed this.
