Gal Gadot says she received death threats after co-star Rachel Zegler voiced support for Palestine in a post on X.

Israeli actress Gal Gadot recently said that “pressure on celebrities to speak out against Israel” during the Gaza conflict was a major factor in the failure of her live-action  Snow White remake last year.

It all started when her co-star Rachel Zegler showed her support for Palestine while promoting the film. The actress wrote on X: “I love you so much! Thank you for the interest and 120 million views of our trailer in the last 24 hours! It’s overwhelming. I’m pretty busy with rehearsals for Romeo and Juliet so I won’t be here very often. Goodbye. And remember: Palestine deserves freedom.” Shortly after the post, Snow White producer Marc Platt flew to New York to speak with the star. His son, Jonah, later called Zegler’s actions “immature” and blamed them for the film’s low ratings. As for Gadot, because she is Israeli , she began receiving many death threats. Disney then even had to increase security for the actress. “Wonder Woman” said that she initially enjoyed filming and working with Rachel Zegler. She was also confident that “this movie was going to be a success.” But when Gaza “heated up” on October 7 last year, there was “a lot of pressure” on Hollywood celebrities “to speak out against Israel.”

The actress said she felt “disappointed” because Snow White  was “affected a lot”, leading to “not achieving good revenue” at the box office.

Upon its release, Marc Webb’s live-action version was heavily criticized for a number of reasons, including the casting of the lead role and the script for the dwarf character. Actor Peter Dinklage called the film “completely outdated.”

The film cost an estimated $270 million to produce, but ended up grossing only about $205 million worldwide—a disappointing but not disastrous performance. Critically, reviews were mostly negative.
