Just half an hour after the video recording the moment CEO Andy Byron and HR Director Kristin Cabot were discovered kissing at a Coldplay concert went viral on social media, technology company Astronomer officially announced: both have been suspended indefinitely to serve an internal investigation.

This is a huge shock not only to the technology world but also shook the entire business community in the US. Andy Byron – a young, talented CEO, once praised as a symbol of innovative leadership – has now become the center of a workplace sex scandal. Meanwhile, Kristin Cabot – who was once honored as one of the most influential female leaders in the human resources industry – is now accused of abusing her power to advance through a private relationship with the CEO.
From public kiss to backlash
The incident began when a short clip of Andy Byron and Kristin Cabot kissing on a big screen at a Coldplay concert in San Francisco went viral on TikTok and X (Twitter). Many people at the event immediately recognized them. Some even said that this was not the first time the couple appeared together suspiciously at internal company events.

Shortly after the clip went viral, a series of former and current Astronomer employees spoke out. One former engineer wrote on LinkedIn: “I was forced to leave the company after reporting unusual bias in personnel decisions made by Cabot. Now I understand why.”
Reactions from within Astronomer and the investment community
Astronomer’s interim board of directors immediately held an emergency meeting. In a press release, they emphasized: “Astronomer has always promoted ethical values and transparency. We have established an independent committee to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident, including whether there was any abuse of power or favoritism in the work.”

Astronomer’s shares, which had been on a growth trajectory thanks to major technology contracts with many financial groups, fell 11% within an hour of the suspension being announced.
Some investors said they felt betrayed. “I invested in Astronomer because I believed in Andy Byron’s professionalism and development strategy. Now I have to review my entire investment portfolio,” said an investor from a New York-based venture fund.
How did the CEO’s family react?
The story became more serious when Andy Byron’s wife, Megan Kerrigan Byron, made a surprising move on Instagram. In a black-and-white photo, she wrote just one line: “Betrayal is the sharpest knife.” The post received more than 200,000 likes in just two hours and thousands of supportive comments.
A source close to the family revealed that Megan fainted when she heard the news on social media before Andy could explain. She is currently living with her parents in Vermont and has refused to speak to the press.

Ethics and the workplace
Many human resources and corporate psychology experts say the incident raises big questions about the work environment at Astronomer: Is this an exception or just the tip of the iceberg?
Dr. Harriet Liu, an expert on corporate culture at Stanford University, said: “A company where the HR director and the CEO have a secret romantic relationship is often a sign of a lack of transparency. That can easily lead to abuse of power, favoritism, and hurtful behavior for other employees.”
What does the future hold for Astronomer?
The company’s COO, Michael Watterson, is currently acting as interim CEO. However, many believe that the company’s reputation has been severely damaged and that recovery will be difficult.
In a status on X, a veteran founder commented: “Talent can get you to the top, but ethics will keep you there. Astronomer is a clear example.”
The story is still being updated. And while the community is divided between anger, disappointment and curiosity, one thing is certain: the secret affair between two senior executives has plunged one of the brightest technology companies into the eye of a scandal.
