Xinhua news agency cited the latest updates as saying that the shooting left one teacher and one student dead, and injured six other students.
According to AP, Wisconsin authorities said the perpetrator of the bloody shooting was a 17-year-old female student. The suspect, identified as a student at the school, used a handgun and also died at the scene.
At a press conference, Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said the motive for the crime is still unclear and police are working to investigate the real cause.

Of the six injured students, two are in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, while the other four suffered less serious injuries.
Abundant Life Christian School is an educational institution with approximately 390 students from kindergarten to grade 12. Immediately after the incident, authorities quickly deployed support to return students to their families.

Wisconsin Department of Education Superintendent Jill Underly stressed the need for change: “This tragedy is a powerful reminder that we must do more to protect children and educators and ensure tragedies like this never happen again.”
On the same day, a White House official said that President Joe Biden had been briefed on the tragedy.
The Madison Police Department said on social media that the incident occurred at Abundant Life Christian School, a private school with about 400 students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Video posted on social media from the scene shows a large-scale rescue operation, involving police, ambulances and fire engines.
Gun control and school safety have become major political and social issues in the United States, where the number of school shootings has skyrocketed in recent years.
According to the K-12 School Shooting Database, there were 322 school shootings in the U.S. in 2024. That’s the second-highest number since 1966, according to the database — just below last year’s total of 349 shootings.
