On December 14, local time, the office of former US House Speaker and Democratic congresswoman Nancy Pelosi issued a statement saying that Ms. Pelosi had undergone successful hip replacement surgery in Luxembourg and was “recovering very well.”
The statement added: “Pelosi feels the outpouring of prayers and well wishes from all sides and is determined to ensure that all Americans have access to high-quality health care.”
Pelosi was injured the day before while attending an official event in Luxembourg and was taken to the hospital for examination and treatment.
The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the matter, said Pelosi tripped after taking a photo with someone else. According to ABC, Pelosi fell down the stairs at the time.
As Speaker of the House, Pelosi was an outspoken opponent of President Trump’s policies. After Biden won the election, Pelosi, along with former President Obama, was seen as Biden’s running mate. When Trump ran for re-election, she criticized him for being too old, even though she is six years older than him and is a congresswoman.
