Announced earlier this year, 28 Days Later director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland will reunite for a new trilogy that includes 28 Years Later.
The first part, starring Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O’Connell, Alfie Williams and Ralph Fiennes, hits cinemas next summer.
And now a new trailer for the next instalment of the British zombie series shot on iPhone has arrived this morning.
The official synopsis reads: “It has been nearly three decades since the raging virus escaped from a bioweapons lab, and now, still under a brutally enforced quarantine, a few have managed to survive among the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a heavily guarded causeway.
“When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that transform not only the infected but the other survivors as well.”
Cillian Murphy, who played Jim in the first film, will also be reprising the role in 28 Years Later. However, film fans claim they’ve seen him in the trailer and it doesn’t look good for his character, who was uninfected at the end of the original 2002 film.
As shared on social media, there is a clip recording the scene of a zombie skeleton rising from the grass and some people think it bears a resemblance to Jim.
However, other fans have pointed out photos of Murphy in human form, leading to suspicions that the infected person is Jim. We’ll just have to wait and see, I guess…
28 Years Later is released in UK cinemas on 20 June 2025.
