A 13-year-old boy in India is being shunned by his fellow villagers because his head is bent 180 degrees.
Mahendra was shunned by his fellow villagers because his head was bent 180 degrees.
Mahendra Ahirwar, a boy from Madhya Pradesh, India, suffers from a rare condition called congenital muscular dystrophy that causes his neck muscles to be so weak that he cannot lift his head.
Apart from being able to sit and crawl, Mahendra cannot do anything on his own. Even eating and going to the toilet requires his parents’ help. Mahendra’s life is confined within four walls. If he goes out, his family has to carry him like a 3-year-old.
Mahendra’s parents Mukesh Ahirwar, 41, and Sumitra Ahirwar, 36, spent years taking him to many doctors in India but to no avail.
But Mahendra’s life changed completely after receiving a donation of more than $17,000 from an online charity to undergo surgery at Apollo Hospital in Delhi, India.
Strange story in the world, the boy has a head bent 180 degrees
Mahendra’s neck was straight as usual after the surgery.
Dr. Rajagopalan Krishnan and his colleagues performed surgery to remove some of the deformed discs in Mahendra’s neck and replace them with bone grown from the boy’s pelvis, allowing the patient’s neck to straighten back to normal.
