5 years since debuting with Blackpink, Lisa finally released her first solo album titled LALISA and achieved global records. However, the journey was not easy!
Here are 4 terrible scandals that happened to Blackpink’s Lisa.
1. Swindled by manager of 1 billion won ($854,423)
Last year, Lisa’s former manager stole 1 billion won through fraud. This manager has been with Lisa since Blackpink’s debut, making the incident even more public.
The manager told Lisa he would help her invest in real estate, but in reality, he took the money and “burned it” on gambling. According to Market News, being a foreigner made Lisa even more vulnerable to fraud.
“Lisa is a foreign member of Blackpink and she has lived alone in Korea since she was young. Therefore, she is very vulnerable to this form of fraud, especially financially,” the announcement said.
2. Accusation of plagiarism
In 2020, Lisa was embroiled in a plagiarism controversy. A choreographer named Cierra Nichols accused Lisa of copying the choreography from the dance video Lilifilm to the music Mushroom Chocolate by QUIN and 6LACK.
Nichol released her own dance video with Mushroom Chocolate 1 month before Lisa’s video was released, leading the choreographer to believe that Lisa had copied her work.
However, after careful examination, Nichols apologized to Lisa: “After careful comparison, I found some similarities and it was not copied by Lisa. My sincere apologies, Cierra Nichols.”
3. Racism
As a K-pop idol of Thai descent, Lisa has endured a lot of racist comments from anti-fans, the media, and even people in the industry…
However, Lisa has also been defended by fans and colleagues. BLINKs have contacted YG Entertainment and shared hashtags like “RespectLisa”. Lisa’s friend, GOT7’s BamBam, also a Thai star, has repeatedly spoken out in her defense.
4. Plastic surgery rumors
As an idol, Lisa has faced public scrutiny, enduring criticism on everything from her talent to her looks. However, rumors of Lisa’s plastic surgery were quickly quashed when her childhood photos were made public.
