Yale University chose Taylor Swift’s signature in a post supporting Kamala Harris’ 2024 presidential bid as its most notable quote.
According to AP on December 3, Yale University announced the ranking of 10 outstanding quotes of the year, extracted from the speeches and posts of many politicians and celebrities. The phrase “Childless Cat Lady” was Taylor Swift’s signature in her campaign post for two Democratic Party members – Ms. Kamala Harris and Mr. Tim Walz – on Instagram in September, surpassing the statements of US President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump.

AP explained how Taylor Swift’s self-proclaimed name was meant to mock the views of 2021 Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance. After Swift’s post, the phrase became popular again, becoming a running joke among some artists. The “List of Notable Quotations” is compiled annually by Fred Shapiro, associate director of the Yale Law Library. The ranking is a supplement to The New Yale Book of Quotations published by Yale University Press.
In an interview with the AP , Fred Shapiro emphasized that the quotes chosen were not necessarily eloquent or admirable. “We chose them because they were famous, important or captured the spirit of our times,” he said.
