SAD NEWS: A “Georgian” cult mother who thought she was breastfeeding a “demon” stabbed her 13-month-old daughter to death and then she …read more

A young Georgia woman caught in a polygamist cult that didn’t believe in medicine and convinced her breastfeeding would be ‘pouring evil’ into her child was found guilty of stabbing her 13-month-old daughter to death.

The 2020 killing opened up a bizarre case involving a polygamist cult in Georgia, with the woman’s lawyers arguing that she was trapped in a cycle of brainwashing and abuse. Chloe Driver, 24, pled not guilty by way of insanity during her trial, but a jury rejected Driver’s insanity plea, finding her criminally responsible for her actions.

Driver was 20 when she stabbed her daughter, 13-month-old Hannah to death. The baby had never seen a doctor and didn’t have a birth certificate.

Driver met her husband, Benyamin Ben Michael, when she was 17 and he was 38. The court heard how Benyamin, known as ‘Z’ ‘indoctrinated’ Driver with his strange beliefs.

Benyamin had two other wives and had the entire family participate in ‘alternative’ healing practices that included drinking their own urine and sensory deprivation. Driver admitted to the court that she was so indoctrinated in the ‘cult’ she believed she was ‘pouring evil’ into her infant by breastfeeding.

Her defense team argued that she shouldn’t be held criminally responsible as she was ‘driven to insanity’ by the oppressive cult, but the prosecution argued that her motivation was to ‘get her husband all to herself,’ based on a disturbing letter presented in evidence.

The letter features Driver’s scrawl, which said: “He didn’t do it, I did it. ‘I was going insane and no longer wanted to be with his friends but kept coming back for him. I only wanted my baby and husband but he refused.”

Driver was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, borderline personality disorder, and cannabis use disorder after her arrest. Her lawyers told the jury Driver had a difficult childhood, ‘cold’ parents, and had left home multiple times.

Before meeting her husband, she already had attempted suicide. Once she got married, “She was incredibly isolated. She wasn’t allowed to speak to others unless it was for recruitment purposes. She couldn’t go to stores, use money, or have a phone without supervision. Her only jobs lasted about two weeks, and those were out of necessity,” Dr. Garrett said.

On the night Driver stabbed her baby to death, one of the other wives, Jessica, called the police. She told the dispatcher there was a child with it’s ‘throat cut.’ When police arrived they found the baby dead. Driver also stabbed herself in the neck.

Driver is now in the custody of the Georgia Department of Corrections and will be sentenced on December 12.
