Three people are facing charges in connection to the death of One Direction member Liam Payne.
The charges were announced Thursday in a press release from Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office.
The suspects were not publicly named, but the first suspect “is the person who accompanied the artist on a daily basis during his stay in the city of Buenos Aires.” That person is charged with abandonment of a person followed by death and supply and facilitation of narcotics.
If convicted, that person could face five to 15 years in prison.
The second suspect is a hotel employee accused of supplying Payne with cocaine. The third suspect is a “drug supplier” related to the case. Both are facing two counts of supplying narcotics
.
Payne died Oct. 16 after he fell from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, authorities said.
According to the press release, investigators have attempted to “reconstruct” the days that Payne was staying at the hotel between Oct. 13-16.
Officials said Payne had “polydrug use of alcohol, cocaine and a prescription antidepressant in his body.”
Authorities also said Payne’s death was not suicide and that he was not pushed by someone else.
Officials said Payne’s phone records and analysis of more than 800 hours of video footage from various security cameras in the hotel aided the investigation.
