More than 200 medical experts have signed an open letter warning about former President Donald Trumpâs mental health, saying he is unfit to return to the White House.
Former President Donald Trump.
The political action group Anti-Psychopath Pac has gathered the signatures of more than 200 mental health experts warning that Donald Trump has worrying symptoms that are difficult to cure, such as âmalignant personality disorder and narcissismâ.
Mr. Trump has repeatedly criticized President Joe Bidenâs age and mental health. At this time, medical experts warn that the mental health symptoms make former President Trump âcompletely unfitâ to return to lead the United States, according to the Guardian.
Worrying signs of mental disorder
The open letter from the group of medical experts was published in the New York Times on October 24. In the letter, experts warn that the Republican candidateâs return to the White House would pose an âexistential threatâ to Americaâs core values.
âIt is easy to see that Mr Trumpâs behaviour has all the hallmarks of antisocial personality disorder,â the experts warn.
The conclusion was based on a comparison of Mr Trumpâs behaviour with the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, the basic document that medical professionals use to diagnose and treat mental disorders.

âEven non-medical professionals can see that, throughout his life, Mr Trump has led a lifestyle that goes against the norms and laws of society, constantly lies, recklessly disregards the safety of others, is irritable, impulsive, irresponsible and remorseless,â the experts said.
Medical experts warn that the symptoms of the disorder they have seen in Mr. Trump make him âdeceitful, delusional, dangerousâ and could cause serious damage.
Previously, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris described Mr. Trump as âincreasingly unstable and insane.â
In recent times, a number of senior officials who served in Mr. Trumpâs administration have called the former president âfascist,â notably former US Army Chief of Staff Mark Milley and former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly.
The letter from medical experts also pointed out that Mr. Trump has signs of cognitive decline and needs a âcomprehensive psychiatric evaluation.â
A counterattack
According to the regulations of the American Psychiatric Association, diagnosing mental illness for people who have not been personally examined by a psychiatrist is prohibited. The regulation is called the Goldwater Act and has been in place since 1973.
However, in an open letter published on October 24, Anti-Psychopath Pac said the Goldwater Act was passed more than 50 years ago. After half a century, the diagnostic system in psychiatry, which is largely based on observable behavioral criteria, has undergone many new developments.
âOver the years, we have witnessed thousands of hours of Mr. Trumpâs behavior, reinforced by observations from dozens of people who have personally interacted with him,â the letter said.

The signatories of the letter include professors of psychiatry, mental health practitioners, sexual health therapists and social activists.
Before President Joe Biden dropped out of the race for the White House, Mr. Trumpâs campaign repeatedly attacked the issue of the current presidentâs age and mental health, claiming that Mr. Biden was no longer suitable to lead the United States.
Currently, Mr. Trump is facing similar attacks and doubts. If he wins the November election, Mr. Trump will become the oldest US president and end his term at the age of 82.
In recent times, Mr. Trumpâs speeches have often been long, rambling and lacking a coherent message. Recognizing these signs, the Democratic Party has repeatedly encouraged voters to follow Mr. Trumpâs campaign rallies, something that rarely happened in the past.
âIâm going to do something that doesnât happen often, which is to invite you to attend one of Mr. Trumpâs rallies, there will be many interesting things to watch,â Ms. Harris said during the debate between the two candidates on September 10.
âYouâll see him throughout the campaign talking about fictional characters like Hannibal Lector and windmills that cause cancer. Youâll notice people leaving early because theyâre tired and bored,â Harris quipped.
